Welcome
Welcome to my website — a window into a career shaped across countries and disciplines, and, more recently, by the transition from academia to entrepreneurship.
For more than 20 years, I have worked in molecular and marine science. This included over a decade building a research group from scratch in the UK, leading international projects and collaborating with colleagues across the world.
Today, I channel that experience into two ventures: SciImpact Global Ltd, which helps researchers transform their expertise into greater visibility and impact, and the International Research Hub for Marine Pollutions CIC, a social enterprise addressing ocean pollution globally by bringing together cutting-edge research, innovation, policy and public engagement to develop stronger responses to complex forms of marine pollution.
Alongside these activities, I remain connected to academia as an Adjunct Professor at Sorbonne University, Paris, France.
This website offers two main paths. If you are a researcher, collaborator, funder or organisation interested in my current ventures, begin with Ventures. If you are an academic colleague or student interested in the research and teaching that shaped this work, explore Research & Impact and Teaching.
Wherever you begin, welcome — and thank you for visiting. Explore my work, discover my ventures and follow this new chapter here and on LinkedIn.
Let's embark on this journey together !
- BIO -
My name is Sabine Matallana-Surget. I am French and was born and raised in Paris by two of the most interesting and creative people I know: my dear mum and dad, whom I deeply admire. My mum is French and my dad is Spanish, which explains my rather long surname — and why it is so often misspelled! In my family, multilingualism is the norm. My brother, a true polyglot, leads the way with more than seven languages.
I studied at Sorbonne University in Paris, specialising in Biochemistry for my BSc and Molecular and Cellular Biology for my MSc. I then completed a joint doctoral degree in Marine Molecular Microbiology across France and Australia.
Beyond science, I have always explored a wide range of interests. These have strengthened my creativity, adaptability, curiosity and appreciation of different cultures and languages. I firmly believe that we are all much more than our professional titles. We are also shaped by our passions, dreams, collaborations, values and work ethic.
A career in academia requires resilience, creativity, motivation and a great deal of hard work. After more than 20 years of studying and working in Molecular and Cellular Biology, including 11 years leading my own research group, I felt ready to begin a new chapter.
Today, I bring together my scientific experience, international perspective and commitment to real-world impact through entrepreneurship, while remaining connected to academia as an Adjunct Professor at Sorbonne University.
This website offers a window into that journey — my career path, expertise, research projects and the experiences that have shaped me as a scientist, academic leader and entrepreneur.
